Trigeminal neuralgia is a debilitating condition characterized by severe, electric shock-like pain in the face, often triggered by simple actions such as eating or talking. At Neuro Foundation, we offer cutting-edge treatment options to provide relief for patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, including radiofrequency ablation and microvascular decompression. Here’s how these innovative techniques can effectively manage this excruciating condition:

Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat generated by radiofrequency waves to selectively destroy the trigeminal nerve fibers responsible for transmitting pain signals. During the procedure, a thin needle electrode is precisely positioned near the affected nerve under fluoroscopic guidance. Once in place, radiofrequency energy is delivered to the targeted nerve, effectively interrupting pain transmission pathways. RFA offers long-lasting pain relief with minimal risk of complications, making it an excellent option for patients with trigeminal neuralgia who have not responded to conservative treatments.

Microvascular Decompression

Microvascular decompression (MVD) is a surgical procedure designed to relieve pressure on the trigeminal nerve caused by nearby blood vessels, often resulting in significant pain reduction. During MVD, the neurosurgeon makes a small incision behind the ear and creates a small opening in the skull to access the trigeminal nerve. Using specialized microsurgical techniques, the offending blood vessel is carefully identified and gently moved away from the nerve, alleviating compression and restoring normal nerve function. MVD offers excellent long-term outcomes and a low risk of recurrence, making it a preferred choice for patients with severe or refractory trigeminal neuralgia.

At Neuro Foundation, our experienced neurosurgeons specialize in the comprehensive management of trigeminal neuralgia, offering a range of advanced treatment options tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Whether through minimally invasive techniques like radiofrequency ablation or surgical interventions like microvascular decompression, we are committed to providing effective relief from trigeminal neuralgia and improving our patients’ quality of life.
